Racines dans les rhumatismes, affections puerpérales, urinaires, pulmonaires, syphilitiques (DARUTY, 1911).

Riche en potasse. Utilisé en Afrique pour la préparation du "sel" indigène. Propriétés médicinales connues (De Wild., P. Boiteau et Boutique, Dalziel).

Suc exprimé des feuilles fraîches réputé pour le traitement des blessures.
