Avena sativa L. (Poaceae)

Avena sativa

Noms malgaches :

Le genre Avena comprend 25 espèces des régions tempérées. Non citée par  J. BOSSER, Graminées des paturages et cultures à Madagascar, 1969. ORSTOM. Paris.

Plante annuelle de 1 m 50 de haut, cultivée, d'origine incertaine. Les feuilles sont longues et l'inflorescence lâche. Le grain est noir.

L'avoine fut principalement introduite pour nourrir les chevaux.

La partie aérienne verte, a des applications médicinales, en cas de fatigue et de surmenage, due à une action sédative.

Amidon 60 %. Alcaloïde indolique: gramine; Glucoside : Avenoside (avéniine, Schutzemberger)
